What is the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)?

PTDF is a government agency that exists as a part of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources set by law to create and improve petroleum technology and to meet the oil and gas industry’s human resource needs through Nigerian research and training. 

Through the PTDF scholarship, students are allowed to study abroad within designated fields of study at specially selected institutions. Once you are qualified for the scholarship, the financial assistance can never be denied. 

Put to mind, the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) was founded by Act 25 of 1973 as amended in Cap 15 of 2000.  It was formulated to replace the former Gulf Oil Company Training Fund Act of 1964. This was for training and educating Nigerians about the oil and gas industry. Since its inception, it has aided in developing indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry.

How does PTDF Scholarship work?

In the PTDF scholarship, there is no room for discrimination.  Every registered student is allowed to undergo an oral interview conducted for Ph.D. applicants (full-time and Split-site) on dates to be announced. After the aptitude tests and interviews, the qualified applicants are chosen and awarded the PTDF scholarship. Since PTDF scholarships are highly competitive, you need to study and practice well. This is because only candidates who are exceptional across the board are selected. 

How can I apply for Petroleum Technology Development Funds (PTDF) Scholarship 2023/2024?

Applying for PTDF isn’t a hard task but there are certain steps you must take to make it a reality. They’re; 

• If you have registered (creating an account), then visit the official online application portal at https://scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng/. 
• Keep scrolling down to find the portal link. 
• Login to your account to complete your application.
• Enter your valid information and other required details.
• Upload the expected support documents
• Tap the submit button to finalize your registration.
• Wait for some days because the scholarship board will contact you once the shortlisting is completed.

You can submit their application forms and supporting documents online using an Interswitch, Master, and Visa ATM card. 

Just proceed to buy a scratch card from the designated main branches of First Bank of Nigeria Plc and the FCT for a non-refundable fee of N1,000. This is only for Nigerian students. 

Requirements for Application for the PTDF scholarship

Before you apply for the PTDF scholarship, you have some requirements. it could be academic merit as evidenced by the quality of degrees, full academic transcripts, other experienced qualifications obtained and related publications to be referenced by the applicant (Ph.D. applicants only). 

For Ph.D. student

• He must not be older than 40 years. 
• He must have undergone the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
• Must have a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree.
• Must have a good second-degree certificate. 
• submission of a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry is mandatory.  It must include the topic, introduction, objective, methodology, and mode of data collection. It should exceed 5 pages. 
• He must also include their master’s degree project. 
• Must present a valid admission letter.

For MSC Student

• Must not be more than 30 years old. 
• Must have served his fatherland (NYSC).
• Must possess a minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their first degree. 
• a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience is accepted if you don’t have 2.1. 
• 5 O/level credits including the English Language is compulsory. 

For M.Sc. and Ph.D. courses, the PTDF Scholarship 2023/2024 program is open to successful local and international students. You are allowed to study in the UK, Brazil, France, Germany, top institutions in the US, and Federal Universities and Centers of Excellence in Nigeria. 

What are the Required Documents? 

• PINs on the application forms to enable PTDF to view the O’level results on the relevant website. 
• Recent Passport Photograph. 
• Local Government Identification Letter. 
• First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result. 
• NYSC certificate (discharge)
• WAEC/GCE/NAPTEB/NECO results. 
• Master’s Degree Certificate (Ph.D. Applicants only)
• Proof of membership of experienced associations.
